a guide to getting your skin red‑carpet ready for a smooth and glowing makeup application before your wedding or event.
Good skin is a long game. Start prepping early.
Six months or so before your wedding you want to be seeing your personal esthetician (or finding one!) embark on any big treatments you’ve been dreaming up before your big day. Do this far enough before the wedding so that you can fully see results, and avoid any catastrophes close to your event.
During this time, discuss your skin concerns with your esty and find treatment options that will bring your skin to its best before the big day. If you’re incorporating new products into a routine, do it now so you can be sure they agree with your skin and you have time to see the full result.
Make sure your esthetician or provider is backed by a reputable spa & using medical grade products for the best results.
In the weeks before your wedding, you want to nail down your skincare routine. Make sure not to introduce anything new to your skin, and avoid any irritating actives. Leading up to the wedding, avoid those heavy exfoliating treatments and focus on hydration, plumping, soothing the skin.
If you’re skin is looking good on its current routine, don’t switch it up or worry about removing anything! Like they say, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
1. ABSOLUTELY NO PICKING!! Put down the extraction tool. Put away the magnifying mirror. Picking at your skin or blemishes will make it SO. MUCH. HARDER. to cover with makeup. Instead, opt for a pimple patch like this one for any breakouts that are popping up. They’re super effective, gentle, and inexpensive!!
2. One last GENTLE exfoliation (using a tried and true product you love—nothing new!) is perfect a few days before the wedding. Slough off dead skin and leave behind irritating actives for good now that you’re just days away.
3. HYDRATE 💦 start getting that glow from within RIGHT NOW!!
The day is here! All there is left to do is PAMPER. How do you prep your skin best to ensure the smoothest and prettiest makeup application?? Here are a few of my favorites:
Sheet Masks: these are a great way to add a special little boost of hydration and plumpness to the skin. They wake the skin up, and give you a little moment of “me time” before the big day. I featured my favorites from @drjart and @tatcha on my reels page!
Under-eye gel masks: to avoid puffiness and give the sensitive skin under eyes a extra boost of soothing, I love to have brides use gel patches under their eyes. For some extra de-puffing power, keep them in the fridge before use!
A simple morning routine of cleanser and moisturizer is perfect for the wedding day.
Though I am a licensed and practicing esthetician, be sure to consult with your personal professional who has worked with your skin.
That’s all for now! See you on the big day.
